This help page applies to Assessors, and Administrators.


When work is submitted to you by students, the submissions appear as a pending assessments on the Dashboard and Assessment screens.

How to Access Pending Assessments:

From the Dashboard

After logging in to your Chalk & Wire account, you will be directed to the Dashboard screen. Using the 'Pending Assessments' tab, you can access submissions made to you which have not yet been assessed.

To access each pending assessment's options, simply click anywhere on the appropriate pending assessment to reveal it's options. Select Assess.


From the Assessment Menu

Alternatively, you can access Pending Assessments by using the 'Assessment' menu to select 'Assess'.

By default, all pending assessments assigned to you will be visible on the left side of the screen. To begin assessing a submission, click on the student's name and select the 'Assess' option.

NOTE: If you are unable to locate a specific pending assessment, you may need to extend your Pending Assessments Horizon. Use the 'Options' button on the right side of the screen to extend your Pending Assessments Horizon.

I received an email notifying me that work was submitted to me for assessment. How do I access it from my email?
  • Click on the link provided in the email or copy and paste the URL into your web browser. You will be directed to the login in screen for your institution's Chalk & Wire site. Log into your account using your user ID and password. Once in your account, you can access your pending assessments directly from the Dashboard, My Assessments, and Assessment screens. See text above for more information. 


I am a guest assessor (do not have a Chalk & Wire account). How do I access an assessment?
  • If you have been assigned an assessment as a guest assessor, you will be notified by email. Click on the link provided in the email or copy and paste the URL into your web browser. You will be directed to enter your email address in order to log in. The assessment will then appear for you to complete.


I cannot see or find a specific submission. How do I find it?
  • If you are looking for a specific submission to assess and cannot locate it on your Dashboard, keep in mind that the Pending Assessments widget will only list the most recent submissions, not all of your pending submissions. You should use the Assessment tab to select the My Assessments option. On the My Assessments screen you can view all students who have submitted work to you. If you still do not see the assessment you are looking for, use the Options tab to broaden the assessment horizon. 


I clicked the "Assess" option and nothing happened. Why won't the Assessment launch?
  • This could be browser or network related. Try switching to a different web browser, such a Google Chrome, Safari or Firefox. You can also try to quit the browser you are using and re-open it. If you are using a computer on campus, the issue could be related to the volume of users on the same network connection at any given time - common during times of year when there are large amount of submissions being made and assessments being completed. In this case, you may want to switch to a different network connection or a different computer.
